Poems for the Seasons
Elizabeth M. Milam

1.
They say that flings are for Summer

But I met you in Spring -

and from that moment on

I was sprung -

Your laugh, your smile -

that twinkle in your eye -

It was inevitable that I fall -

only -

Winter came early

when Snow White appeared

followed by a trail of ice -

She held your gaze

and revealed it to be

your heart that was in her chest

2.
A wintry wind that was o' so sweet

reminded me of a stolen moment

we had - when -

instead of words -

we talked between our teeth

3.
Whispers and laughter

from the eve of that summer day

led into a night of ecstasy -

all was left to the universe to carry away,

only -

I was left stranded and watched you

watching me as the sky turned gray

4.
They say that if you are to fall -

you are to fall hard

But on that Fall afternoon

when I fell - face first for you

You were over there

lacing up her shoes
